How Can I Setup Fetch Mail Accounts in Horde?

With Fetch Mail, you can retrieve mail from a remote mail server and have it forwarded to your Horde account.

Before you create Fetch Mail accounts See Below, you may want to consider creating folders first to keep your inbox organized; this way, fetched emails will automatically be grouped and filed together for easy reference.

Create Folders (Optional)

To create a folder:

  1. Login to Horde.
  2. Click Mail in the left-side menu or from the menu at the top of the screen.
  3. Click Folders in the menu at the top of the screen.
  4. Select Create from the drop-down menu.
  5. In the pop-up box, enter a name for the folder.
    • We suggest you make the folder name similar to the email address you plan to fetch. For example, if you are going to fetch email from example@exampledomain.com, you might name this folder "Example."
  6. Click OK.
  7. Repeat steps 4-6 for each folder you would like to add.

Once you've created all the folders you wish to use, the next step is to set up Fetch Mail accounts.

Create Fetch Mail Accounts

To set up a Fetch Mail account:

  1. Log into Horde.
  2. Click Mail in the left-side menu or from the menu at the top of the screen.
  3. Click Options in the menu at the top of the screen.
  4. Under the Message Options column, click Fetch Mail.
  5. Click the link to Edit your preferences for accessing other mail accounts.
  6. Select an account from the drop-down menu or click Create a New Account.
  7. Select IMAP/POP3 Mail Servers from the drop-down menu.
  8. Complete the fields:
    • Account's name: this can be anything you'd like to name the account
    • Protocol: select IMAP
    • Username: full email address from which you want mail fetched (example@domain.com)
    • Password: the password for the email address from which you want mail fetched
    • Server: mail.yourdomain.com (this can be set to localhost if the email account is on the same server)
    • Remote Mailbox: Inbox
    • Local Mailbox: Inbox (or choose a folder )
    • Select the checkboxes to suit your preferences.
  9. Click Create.

Fetch Mail from Existing Accounts

If you have multiple email accounts setup to be fetched and each inbox contains a large amount of email, the fetch operation may take a little longer to retrieve all email.

To enable Fetch Mail for existing email accounts:

  1. Log into Horde.
  2. Click Mail in the left side menu or from the menu at the top of the screen.
  3. Click Fetch Mail in the menu at the top of the screen.
  4. Select the account(s) you want to fetch.
  5. Click Fetch Mail.
